An orchestra playing at a concert

Band conert

On October 7th and 9th, CMS students and parents had the honor of going to the band concerts. For the past 24 years, they held a Patriotic concert here at CMS, and it started because of 9/11. The band teachers– David Palmer, Kelly Ball, and David Jordan– did a great job conducting! It was truly unbelievable how good the bands were, even though the percussion only practiced with the band two times! They played Star Spangled Banner, and they were beautiful. As Jaxon Harmen, a 7th grade percussionist said, “I can’t choose just one song to be my favorite, since all of them just sounded so good.” In addition, David Palmer also announced that he would continue teaching at CMS!

The Orchestra classes performed on October 8th under the direction of Christina Carrigan. There are 2 classes of beginning students that combined to play Hot Cross Buns and a variation called Burnt Cross Buns. Then this beginning group played Tune-A-Rumble with Megan Taylor on the piano. The Intermediate Orchestra class shared their musical talents with the large audience by playing Zombie Dance and Haunted Halloween. Finally, the Advanced Orchestra class played Storm and Perpetual Fiddle Motion. There are so many little techniques to learn when playing a string instrument, from holding the instrument, finger positions, bow holds, types of bowings, reading the musical notes and counting tempos. This is the first concert of the school year and these orchestra students did not disappoint.
