On Monday October 27 only the 8th grade CMS choir performed. Along with students of other Iron County schools, CHS, CVMS, CVHS, Parowan, and SUU’s choir. The bands and orchestras from all of these schools also joined us to celebrate our nation. This concert was put together to celebrate our nation's 250th birthday. Over 700 students attended and everybody including the audience joined the choirs, bands, and orchestras for singing our National Anthem. Before we got started there were many people in attendance we needed to appreciate. This includes Parowan High School music teacher Trevor Walker, Cedar High School Keith Sorenson, Christina Carrigan,  and Mark Ganowski, for Cedar Middle School David Palmer, Kelly Ball, David Jordan, Christina Carrigan, Emily Piep, and the pianist who accompanied us Meghan Taylor, Canyon View High School we have Will Zellers, and Alex Burgess, and finally Canyon View Middle School Laurelyn Anderson, Derek Matthews, Terresa Red, and Jacob Chipman. In the audience we had many people from the school board and mayor and city counselors of Cedar City. We started the performance with the choirs singing We the People, Orchestra- America the beautiful, and band Call to Victory. The 2nd set was American Creed, The Water is Wide, and High Water Mark which was a song about the battle of Gettysburg. The 3rd set was Sea to Shining Sea, Perpetual Fiddle Motion, and Amazing Grace. Before we sang the last set Superintendent Hatch talked about this photo he saw with a sun halfway covered by the horizon. He told us that Benjamin Franklin often pondered whether the sun was rising or setting. At the end we know that it was rising just like our country. We then heard about the essay contest winners. The 5th grade winner was Olivia B, 6-8th grade was Jocelyn C, and high school winner Ava R. They talked about how they loved our country and why, such as our freedoms (religion, speech, etc.), the fact they can always stay with their family, and how beautiful our shores and mountains are. We then finished the concert with Our America which consisted of Yankee Doodle, This Land is your Land, You’re a Grand old Flag, and God Bless the U.S.A. All the choirs, bands, and orchestras including SUU choir joined us in finishing the concert.
