K9 Officers

Last Wednesday, September 30th, some students during an enrichment activity had a special opportunity to get a look at what K9 dogs do that serve in the police department.

The officers started by introducing both themselves and their dogs and later brought them to do specific tasks such as finding things, apprehending criminals, and staying close to their owner. They also showed how good the dogs are at sniffing for drugs by making the K9s identify where they were in the room. This helped give the students a glance at what it is like for the K9s and the police officers on the job sites. Students found it most entertaining when the K9 “bit” the officer who had protection on to demonstrate how trained the dogs are.

“It was so cool because it’s definitely not something that I see everyday,” Mya C. stated.

“It’s so cool to see how trained yet fierce they can be!” Julia G. said.

This enrichment was definitely a different experience in a positive way and seemed to be a hit for students who enjoy action or are interested in the police department!
