Orchestra playing

On January 26th the Advanced Orchestra visited elementary schools in Cedar City.

They played many songs and showed the 5th and 4th graders what instruments they could playin the Middle School Orchestra. Each instrument group had two soloists play for the 4th and 5th graders. The orchestra played two medleys, Orange Jam (a rock song made specifically for orchestra), and Pirates of the Caribbean. The Advanced Orchestra got a pizza party for lunch and kept moving to the next elementary school. Everyone in the orchestra had taken so much time, and hard work to prepare for the recruiting concerts. We hope the 4th, 5th graders, and the teachers enjoyed the concerts. Hopefully, it made the students think more about what they wanted to do here at CMS next year.

On an even better note, the Advanced Orchestra worked for weeks on auditions for the Junior High state competition. Instead of just making it to state they earned the sweepstakes award which means that the judges put them into the top 15 orchestra group in the whole state. The advanced orchestra students will go to Salt Lake City, and play a few classical songs for the judges and they will be judged in March. After that they will be moved into a different room where they will have two minutes to look at a new piece of music. After that they will site-read and play the song without stopping. On the way home they will stop at the mall and have dinner and do some shopping. Thank you to all the parents who supported the students to practice, and thanks to the Advanced Orchestra students for doing their best.
